Horsepower is important. While we can’t exactly explain why to “non car people”, well all know that it is. Horsepower is speed and power and noise and violence and happy. We usually equate high horsepower to high dollars, but there are some fun options for a modest budget.
2003 Mercede-Benz SL55 AMG
Yes, this car will be very expensive to service. But consider that you’re buying a 493 horsepower car, which originally retailed for $118,000 for about $20,000.
2005 Chevrolet Corvette C6
The C6 market is dropping like a stone in the wake of the new C7 Stingray. Which is why a 400 hp Corvette is yours for around $20,000.
2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8
Give your snooty neighbour’s Range Rover something to wet its pants about. Yeah, it’s got a HEMI. A 6.1-litre 420 horsepower HEMI to be exact.
2007 Audi S6
Another car that will kill you to service, but considering they were about $75,000 new and you get a 435 horsepower V10, it’s totally worth it.
2006 Pontiac GTO
The same 6.0-litre V8 in the C6 Corvette was available in this model GTO. 400 horsepower and a kick ass name plate are yours for around $20,000.
2006 Dodge Charger SRT8
The 6.1-litre 425 horsepower HEMI made its way into every model in the SRT lineup, and the Charger was of course no exception. While the looks are a little dated compared to new models, the prices has certainly softened as well.
2011 Mustang GT 5.0
2011 saw the return of the infamous Mustang 5.0 V8, this time in DOHC form, making a whopping 412 horsepower. You might have to pay just a smidgen over $20,000, but it’s worth it.
