What to Do When your Car Breaks Down
It can happen to us all, and typically does when we least expect it. You’re either late for an important meeting or on your way to pick up the kids from school when suddenly, the car decides to stop working. The very first thing to do is to make sure the car is off the road, which might require some assistance, and once the vehicle is in a safe place, you can begin to diagnose the problem, assuming you have a basic understand of the workings of an internal combustion engine, that is.
- Call Out an Emergency Car Repair Garage – Leave the hazard warning lights on and phone for a local garage to come and take a look. There are car repairs in Hamilton that can be located with a Google search, then it is simply a question of passing the time until the mobile unit arrives.
- Stay with the Vehicle – Don’t stray too far and before you know it, the mechanic will be poking his head under the bonnet. In most cases, a fix can be done there and then, but if the car needs to be taken to the garage, they will arrange for immediate transportation.
In the event the car has broken down on a country road and cannot be moved off the highway, walk back a couple of hundred yards and place your warning triangle in a visible location to warn approaching drivers of the stationary vehicle.
Stay calm and whatever it is that you were doing, it isn’t the end of the world and within a few hours, you will be mobile once again.
